A Roomba for all Countries: How User Research Can Shape the Industrial Design of Physical Products

How do you design in-home products that appeal to a global audience? Interior design styles and personal preferences vary. There are cultural factors at play with product colors and finishes. In this talk, Vanessa Wiegel shares how her team conducts industrial design research to determine iRobot’s global CMF strategy (i.e. colors, materials, finishes). By sharing the methodology and best practices she has developed over the past 3 years, Vanessa hopes researchers will feel empowered to conduct this rarely discussed, but important, form of research.
